Fellowships for Visual Artists and Craftpeople
In 2006, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance awarded a total of $9,000 for visual arts fellowships to three area artists. Awardees were mixed media artist Daria Dorosh of Barryville, NY; painter Frank Holmes of Narrowsburg, NY; and sculptor Cara Grae Meling of Lackawaxen, PA. Funding was made possible by a grant from a private family foundation, which made an annual commitment to these fellowships from 2001 to 2006.
Daria Dorosh has been actively exhibiting her work since the early 1970’s and has had solo and group shows in galleries such as A.I.R., New York Hall of Science, Taranto Gallery and Museum of Modern Art in New York City, as well as in galleries in Austria, Korea and The Netherlands. She has received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts. Daria maintains a studio in Barryville, NY.
Frank Holmes established his studio in Narrowsburg, NY in the early 80’s and was actively showing in New York at Monique Knowlton Gallery, Galerie Tamenago and Sindin Galleries. Early in his career he received a Rome Prize in painting followed by an Ingram Merrill Foundation Fellowship in Painting. His work has been shown locally at the Alliance Gallery and River Gallery in Narrowsburg, NY and at Jerico Gallery in Callicoon, NY.
Cara Grae Meling of Lackawaxen, PA received a B.A. in Fine Arts/Sculpture from Pennsylvania State University where she received an award for her undergraduate juried exhibition. She was Artist in Residence at Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, WA and has been actively exhibiting throughout Pennsylvania. She had a solo exhibition at the Alliance Gallery in Narrowsburg, NY last February.
Delaware Valley Arts Alliance Executive Director Elaine Giguere says, “These fellowships have been instrumental in attracting artists to our Visual Arts Program and, I believe, have helped greatly to boost the visibility of the Arts Alliance as a supporter of individual artists. The Arts Alliance staff and board are grateful to have had this wonderful opportunity and are most grateful to our donors.”
