Sullivan County Arts & Heritage
Grants Available for 2008

Administered by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Sullivan County Arts & Heritage Grants Program is now accepting applications for 2008 funding. The grants assist nonprofit organizations to present or produce cultural programming in Sullivan County.

Sullivan County nonprofit arts groups and community organizations are eligible, such as literary groups, choral groups, historical societies, orchestras, and libraries.

Applicants must:
• be based in Sullivan County and have a Board of Directors or volunteers who perform board functions
• have been in existence for at least one year
• supply evidence of nonprofit status with one of the following documents: an IRS Letter of Determination, a charter issued by the Board of Regents of NY State, an authorization as an arm of local government or a receipt of registration from the New York State Office of the Attorney General’s Charities Bureau (available at 120 Broadway, New York, NY 10271 or online at www.oag.state.ny.us/charities).

SCAHG funds quality arts programs, projects, or services that focus on one of the following: visual, performing, literary, media or folk arts; local or ethnic culture; architecture or environmental arts.

The minimum funding request and grant is $300; the maximum is $2,500. All projects must take place before December 31, 2008.

DVAA encourages first time applicants to attend a seminar on how to fill out the forms and develop proposals and budgets. Seminars will be held on Thursday, March 6, 6:30 p.m. at the Hearing Room, Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North Street, Monticello, NY and on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY.

In 2007, Sullivan County non-profit cultural organizations received $15,000 in Sullivan County Arts and Heritage Grants (SCAHG). Granted organizations included Callicoon Business Association for three arts and heritage events; Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum for development and execution of an exhibit, “The Women in Fly Fishing;” Delaware Valley Opera for 2007 Opera Festival; Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library for a lecture series with five artists; Ill Winds Chamber Ensemble for a Fall County Composers’ Festival; Liberty Community Development Corporation for production of “Shakespeare in Liberty 2007;” Liberty Museum & Arts Center for support for mounting an exhibit; North American Cultural Laboratory, Inc. for support for a series of five “Salon Sessions;” St. Andrew’s Mission for artist’s fee for a free classical concert; Triad Dance Ensemble for assistance with an Isadora Duncan review; and Weekend of Chamber Music for artists’ fees for “Masterworks 1700-2007.”

DVAA seeks candidates to serve on future grant review panels. A likely panelist is a citizen informed about the arts and/or county cultural events. A panelist can serve for up to 3 years. Duties consist of reading applications and participating in two meetings. The Sullivan County Arts and Heritage Grant supports non-profit cultural organizations in Sullivan County, NY. The program is administered by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. Grant cycle usually begins in late winter of each year.
