DVAA Grants $1600 in
2010 Scholarships in the Arts
Delaware Valley Arts Alliance is offering three scholarships for high school seniors who will pursue higher education in the arts. Each scholarship has been established to assist young people who are furthering their studies in a specific artistic discipline. Scholarships have been funded by private contributions and benefit events. The guidelines are as follows:

Vocalist and trumpet player Lindsey Bauer (pictured above) of Callicoon has been awarded the Jane and Barry Bodenstein Music Advancement Scholarship of $500. Bauer plans to continue her music education at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania as a music education major. Pianist Nicholas Cucci of Callicoon has been awarded the Music Achievement Prize of $100. He has been playing the piano since age six. He will be attending the University of Scranton in the fall of next year studying biochemistry. He also intends to continue playing music.
Delaware Valley Arts Alliance offers the Dr. Barry and Jane Bodenstein Music Scholarship in memory of the two admired community leaders from Jeffersonville, NY. It is open to seniors at Sullivan West Central School District on an annual basis.
Stanley Segal Visual Art Scholarship ($500)
The $500 Stanley Segal Scholarship for Visual Arts, new in 2010 and open to all Sullivan County, NY and Wayne County, PA high school seniors, has been awarded to Aundray Morris of Tri-Valley Central School in Grahamsville, NY. Morris, who lives in Loch Sheldrake, intends to become an animator and has enrolled in summer school at Full Sail University for Game Art. “It’s what I’m meant to do and it’s all I want to do,” says Morris.
DVAA/D&H Photography Scholarship ($500)
The D&H Photography Scholarship of $500 was awarded to Kwame Agyapon of Eldred Central School. Open to Sullivan County, NY high school seniors the scholarship was funded by the former D&H Photography Society. “Art has come to the forefront of what I want to pursue,” says Agyapon (in a self portrait, above). He is planning to attend SUNY Buffalo majoring in photography.
Past Bodenstein Scholarship Receipients
Recipients of the 2009 Bodenstein Music Scholarships were vocalist Jennifer Leon of Narrowsburg who received the Music Advancement Scholarship of $500 and flutist Jessica Brey of Jeffersonville who received the Music Achievement Prize of $100.
Recipients in 2008 were Hannah Ross of Narrowsburg, who was awarded the Music Advancement Scholarship of $500 and Julia Berger of Youngsville, who received the Music Achievement Prize of $100.
In 2007, an unprecedented three scholarships were awarded. Violinist Laura Berger of Youngsville, NY won the Music Advancement Award of $500, and Noah Barker (piano) of Jeffersonville and Jessica Armstrong (flute), of Livingston Manor won the Music Achievement Award of $300 each.
Previous scholarship winners were Molly Raum of Kenoza Lake (2001), Dan Segar of Cochecton (2002), Christian Bowers of Hankins and Joseph Hawker of Narrowsburg (2003), Cassie Valentin of Narrowsburg and Emily Gref of Jeffersonville (2004) and Cheryl Baker of Long Eddy (2005).
