Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater present George Clooney in The Descendants opening Friday, January 27.

Clooney stars as a Hawaiian land baron steering his two daughters through a tragic time when his wife is on life support after a boating accident.

Director Alexander Payne (Citizen Ruth, Election, Sideways) has a knack for telling stories about people forced into difficult personal decisions. He establishes his lead characters in a web of complex supporting characters, so we understand the pressures they’re facing. Here he has as assembled a consistently outstanding cast, including the teenage daughter Alexandra (Shailene Woodley) and the younger Scottie (Amara Miller).

Film critic Claudia Puig of USA Today says that Payne “reaches new heights in emotional agility, weaving a multilayered story with perfectly calibrated doses of comedy and tragedy.”

The Descendants recently picked up two Golden Globe trophies, including the top honor of Best Dramatic Movie and another for Clooney as Best Dramatic Actor. The film and lead actor have also been nominated for Oscars.

The Descendants is rated R and will screen nightly at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, January 27–Tuesday, February 7
with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
