2011 QUICK & GRITTY VIDEO SLAM—June 18 at 7 p.m.
Delaware Valley Arts Alliance will award $500 to a video artist at the Quick & Gritty Video Slam, a competition of three-minute videos, on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. at Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge St, Narrowsburg, NY. All you have to do to be the winning artist is bring your digital camera to the Upper Delaware Valley during June and create a short movie (under three minutes).

Video artists of all skill levels are invited to share their digital creations. So, whether you’re inspired to document your DIGit experience or the people you meet, you have an original scripted story you want to film, or you want to capture the local area from your own particular viewpoint, your thematic and creative choices are limitless.

There are, however, a few restrictions: all final pieces must be one to three minutes in length, must have been created entirely during the DIGit festival (between June 3 and 18). All works must have been shot in Sullivan County or the Upper Delaware valley, and must be submitted on a playable DVD to the DVAA, 37 Main Street, Narrowsburg by 12 Noon. on Saturday, June 18. There is no submission fee.

Works will be judged live on-site, and the creator of the winning work will receive a $500 cash prize. Other prizes may also be awarded.

DIGit is a digital media exposition, sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, that encourages creative and technical excellence and experimentation among individual artists and small groups working with digital tools. The Eigth Annual DIGit Media Exposition, June 3-25, includes continuous screenings, site specific performances, interactive concerts, and audio and video installations in and around Narrowsburg’s Main Street and the Delaware River. DIGIT is funded in part by a grant from the Electronic Media Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State’s 62 counties.

FLICKS FROM THE UNDERGROUND—June 25 at 7 p.m.
The 8th annual DIGit festival concludes with “Flicks From the Underground,” a screening of videos and films from performance artists from the 1970s to the present, curated by video artist Ron Littke. The videos, originally intended to be shown in galleries, clubs, and performance spaces, are funny, irreverent, surprising, and above all, different. Most of the videos come from the Franklin Furnace archives. Many haven’t been shown publicly for over 20 years.

Included in the program are: “Artie Performance” by The Kipper Kids; “Monkey Business” and “Come In” by William Wegman; “Barbara Bush” by Martha Wilson; “Is-it-work-or-is-it-war” by Ilona Granet; “Subordinate Acts” by Julie Harrison; “The Atomic Gospel Hour” by Ron Littke; “Stunt—a Musical” by David Leslie; “Go for it Mike” by Michael Smith; “After Rush Hour” by Charles Dennis; “Reality Is” an animation by Phyllis Bulkin; “Drag King” by Diane Torr; and “Full Moon Show” by The Alien Comic (Tom Murrin), plus works by DANCENOISE, the Margolis Brown Adaptors Company, and more—maybe even a surprise guest or two! Guaranteed FUN!

The Franklin Furnace is a non-profit group whose mission is to preserve avant-garde art. Warning: The program contains nudity and adult material.
